1. Arrival in Islamabad
Arrival in Islamabad and airport transfer to the hotel. The rest of the day is yours to settle in — explore the city, visit the iconic Faisal Mosque, eat at a local joint, and pick up any last-minute gear before we head into the mountains. Evening group briefing and welcome dinner.
2. Islamabad - Skardu (flight)
An early morning flight north to Skardu, with the Karakoram giants filling the windows on approach. On the ground we meet the bikes, run a gear check and briefing, and do a short shakedown ride around Skardu to get calibrated before the real riding begins.
3. Skardu - Deosai National Park - Tarishing. 160-190 km
We ride out of Skardu and climb onto the Deosai Plateau — one of the highest plateaus in the world, sitting above 4,000 m. Wide open rolling grasslands, river crossings, and a sky that goes on forever. Wildlife sightings are common here: Himalayan brown bears, ibex, and golden eagles. From Deosai we descend toward the Rupal Valley, with Nanga Parbat's massive south face rising above the valley floor, and continue to Tarishing village. One of the most remote and rewarding days of the tour.
4. Tarishing - Nomal. 170 km
We ride out of Tarishing through the Rupal Valley and descend into Astore before connecting to the Indus River corridor. From there we continue toward Jaglot — the junction point of three great mountain ranges, the Himalayas, the Karakoram, and the Hindu Kush — join the Karakoram Highway, and ride on to the quiet village of Nomal. Green fields and streams after days of high-altitude terrain.
5. Nomal - Passu. 140 km
We ride north on the Karakoram Highway through Gilgit and into Hunza. The valley opens up and the scale of the landscape shifts — Rakaposhi and the surrounding peaks come into view and stay with you for most of the day. We follow the Hunza River up to the village of Passu, home to the famous Passu Cathedral spires, which rise directly above the village like a row of teeth.
6. Passu - Khunjerab Pass - Passu. 250 km
We ride the Karakoram Highway north from Passu as it climbs steadily into the upper Hunza Valley. The terrain becomes wider and more open, the colours drain out of the rock, and eventually the road tops out at Khunjerab Pass — 15,400 ft / 4,693 m, the highest paved international border crossing in the world. We spend time at the top, take in the view over the China border, then descend back to Passu.
7. Passu - Shimshal - Hunza. 160 km
We leave the Karakoram Highway and turn onto the Shimshal Road — a narrow track carved into the cliff face above the river, one of the most dramatic pieces of road in Pakistan. We ride to Shimshal village, remote, wild, and rarely visited, then ride back out through the same gorge. We continue south into Hunza and finish the day in Karimabad, in the heart of the valley.
8. Hunza Rest Day
A day off the bikes. Karimabad's bazaar is one of the most pleasant in the region — handmade crafts, silk carpets, dried fruit and walnuts, and the famous walnut cake at Café de Hunza. Explore Baltit Fort, over 700 years old and looking straight across the valley to Rakaposhi. Visit local initiatives including the all-women furniture factory, in a region with a 95% literacy rate — among the highest in Pakistan.
9. Hunza - Satrangi Lake - Naltar. 90 - 120 km
We ride south toward Gilgit and then climb into Naltar Valley, leaving the highway behind for forest roads and cooler air. An off-road track takes us up to Satrangi Lake, known for its shifting colors depending on light and season. We continue to the village of Naltar and spend the night in the forest — pine trees, clear air, and quiet.
10. Naltar - Skardu. 240 km
We descend from Naltar back to the Karakoram Highway, head toward Jaglot, and turn onto the Skardu Road. From here the Indus River takes over — the road follows it through gorge after gorge, the walls rising hundreds of meters on both sides, all the way back to Skardu. A long and rewarding final riding day.
11. Skardu - Islamabad
A scenic morning flight from Skardu back to Islamabad. On a clear day expect aerial views of the Karakoram and Himalayan ranges as you descend into the capital. Final night in Islamabad.
